What We Lose When We Photograph Everything
There's a particular kind of dinner where the food goes cold while everyone finds the light.
I don't think photographing food is the problem. I think the order of operations sometimes is — when the photograph becomes the reason for the dish, rather than a record of it.
A meal you didn't photograph is not a meal you forgot to document. It's just a meal you actually ate.
Lately I've started leaving my phone in the other room for the first few bites. The food tastes the same either way. But I remember it differently.
